'The Woman In Black' sequel hires 'Misfits' director Tom Harper

The original starring Daniel Radcliffe is the highest-grossing British horror movie in over 20 years

The sequel to hit British horror movie The Woman In Black now has a director.

Titled The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death, the sequel will be helmed by Tom Harper, whose CV includes last year's TV adaptation of The Borrowers starring Christopher Eccleston and several episodes of Misfits.

Harper said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter: "This will be a great opportunity for me to collaborate with a brilliantly talented team on the next installment in this exciting series."

Released this February (2012), The Woman In Black starred Daniel Radcliffe as a lawyer sent to an eerie manor called Eel Marsh House to settle a dead woman's affairs. Based on a novel by Susan Hill, it became the highest-grossing British horror film in over 20 years, with worldwide box office takings exceeding $127 million (79 million).

The Woman In Black had a script by X-Men's Jane Goldman, but the sequel has been written by up-and-coming screenwriter Jon Croker, once again based on Hill's n! ovel. It will continue the story four decades on from the Edwardian setting of the original.

The official plot synopsis runs as follows: "Seized by the government and converted into a military mental hospital during World War II, the sudden arrival of disturbed soldiers to Eel Marsh House has awoken its darkest inhabitant. Eve, a beautiful young nurse, is sent to the house to care for the patients but soon realizes she must save them from more than their own demons. Despite Eve's efforts to stop her, one by one they fall victim to the Woman in Black."

Although the sequel has a new director and screenwriter, it is being steered by the same production team as this year's The Woman In Black. It has been rumoured that Daniel Radcliffe could return for a brief appearance.
