Daniel Radcliffe - Daniel Radclife To Play Beat Poet Allen Ginsberg?

Daniel Radcliffe seems determined to avoid the fate suffered by many young actors upon finding themselves cast in a franchise, by moving on to as many different roles as possible to avoid being pigeonholed. The star has spent this year on Broadway playing the role of J. Pierrepont Finch in the play 'How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying' following previous stage roles in 'Equus' in 2007 and between 2008 and 2009. Radcliffe is also set to play a far more grown up role on the silver screen too, playing Arthur Kipps in the film adaptation of Susan Hill's thriller novel 'The Woman In Black'. Now, the UK's Guardian newspaper has reported that the actor - who recently topped Heat! Magazine's rich list for stars under 30 years of age - is in line to play the role of famous gay beat poet Allen Ginsberg in the independent film 'Kill Your Darlings', a film set in a 1940s New York where homosexuality was still very much a criminal act. The pr...

The film, created by writer-director John Krokidas, is a thriller based on actual events that occurred between famous authors Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and Lucien Carr. Carr is credited for bringing together Ginsberg, Kerouac and William S Burroughs in friendship, but he also famously served time in 1944 for mu...

Daniel Radcliffe Cast As Allen Ginsberg

Image
Daniel Radcliffe has been cast as poet Allen Ginsberg in the film Kill Your Darlings , reports TwitchFilm . According to the site, Radcliffe expressed his desire to the French press to play a gay character. As soon as he ends his run in Broadway's How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying , Radcliffe will replace the departing Jesse Eisenberg in the drama. The screenplay is based on a fascinating incident that took place in the relationship between Ginsberg and fellow members of the Beat circle, Jack Kerouac and Lucien Carr. In 1944, Carr, who was heterosexual and is the father of The Alienist author Caleb Carr, murdered David Kammerer, who had been obsessively pursuing the 19 year old. While some of their friends presumed the two men were sexually involved, Carr and their mutual friend William Burroughs insisted they weren't. Chris Evans has been attached to portray Kerouac, with Ben Wishaw as Carr for writer-director John Krokidas and producer Christine Vachon. With t...

Daniel Radcliffe Writing A Film 'No One Wants To See'

Never say there's something that Daniel Radcliffe can't do, because he will go on to prove you wrong. The former "Harry Potter" star has broken out into his adulthood with two very different projects. His horror film, " The Woman in Black ," is due out in the US in February, and Radcliffe is currently wrapping up his time on Broadway in the musical "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying." So what's next for the young star? Well, screenwriting, of course. "I am trying to write a script which is fun and frustrating and terrible at the moment but hopefully will be good at some point," Radcliffe shared with MTV News. When asked what genre the movie would be in, Radcliffe didn't have much to say. "Arthouse," he said with a laugh. "Beyond that, I don't know. It will be a film that no one wants to see." This hasn't been Radcliffe's best year for writing, according to the actor, though that...

Daniel Radcliffe to Play Legendary Poet Allen Ginsberg in 'Kill Your Darlings'

I have a feeling that in just a few years, Daniel Radcliffe won't be entirely pinned down as the Harry Potter kid anymore. At least, he's making efforts to expand his boundariessome pretty fantastic efforts, as a matter of fact. Radcliffe's first post- Deathly Hallows Part 2 film roleis the leade in the eerie-looking horror film The Woman in Black , for which fans of the genre should start getting very, very excited (the first , second and third trailers all give some very frightening promise). But Radcliffe is also claiming territory in a more artistic venue: he signed on to portray the immortal beat poet Allen Ginsberg in John Krokidas' drama-thriller Kill Your Darlings . The story of Krokidas' film will revolve around the highly publicized friendshipsbetween writers Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and Lucien Carr, whose infamous murder of his stalker David Kammerer will be a major elementof the film. Chris Evans and Ben Whishaw will play Kerouac andCarr, respectiv...

Daniel Radcliffe 'Thrilled' For Darren Criss On Broadway

After a very successful and critically acclaimed run on the Great White Way, Daniel Radcliffe will very soon be ending his run in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and passing the torch to "Glee" star Darren Criss , who will take over on January 3. When MTV News caught up with Radcliffe -- who we named as the actor we're most thankful for in 2011 -- we asked for his thoughts on his successor and whether he had any decision or veto power in Criss being added to the cast. "Oh God, no. I don't have any power over those things at all, nor should I," Radcliffe said. "I think it's fantastic. I'm actually kind of thrilled. He went to the same high school as a couple of the guys in our show did. I think he's really talented. I've not met him yet, but I'm sure he's very nice. He's a very, very talented guy, and I'm sure he'll do a great job." Radcliffe is bummed for Criss that he only gets to ...

Daniel Radcliffe: 'Don't Shy Away From Your Own Weirdness'

Image
Daniel Radcliffe has a chat with MTV News about what hes discovered in his acting abilities. I think the most vital thing Ive learned and this is a thing I have to adapt and be able to find throughout my career, be it onstage or film in comedy or drama is that the more I try and suppress my own natural oddness, the less successful I am, Daniel said, I have a slightly staccato way of moving and talking the realization hit me that Im working so hard to try and be something else, and actually, I just have to learn to be my most natural self onstage or onscreen, however that comes across. Dan also learned this lesson: Dont shy away from your own weirdness. Own your oddness. Check below for more of MTV s interview with Daniel ! Daniel Radcliffe MTV News Like Just Jared Jr. on FB

The woman in black: Daniel Radcliffe's first adult movie role

CEBU, Philippines - Millions of fans watched him grow up and mature as an actor between the ages of 12 to 21 in eight smash hit Harry Potter movies. But Daniel Radcliffe is clearly ready to move on from his teenage wizard role. The new full trailer for the 22-year-old's forthcoming movie The Woman in Black has just been released and shows a very different side to the star. Dressed in a three-piece black suit and tie, complete with pocket watch, the actor looks much more grown up and mature in his role as young solicitor Arthur Kipps. There is also mention of him in the trailer of having a young son, quite a departure from J.K Rowling's famous boy wizard. The trailer is suitably creepy, with Daniel's character being warned against travelling to the eerily named Eel Marsh house to settle the affairs of an elderly and reclusive widow following her death. 'It's my first grown-up role,' he said. 'I'm supposed to be 24 in this. And I've got a son.' The...

Daniel Radcliffe almost missed out on Potter

Daniel Radcliffe almost missed out on the role of Harry Potter because his parents were worried it would disrupt his life too much. The 22-year-old actor played the schoolboy wizard in all eight Harry Potter movies but says his mother and father were initially unsure because it would have meant him living in Los Angeles for long periods. However, they soon changed their mind after director Chris Columbus who first saw Daniel in UK TV show David Copperfield decided to shoot most of the movies in Daniels native England. He said: Chris Columbus had seen David Copperfield and said, I want to audition this boy. They went to my parents, and, at the time, the deal was to sign on for, I think, six films, all to be done in LA, and my mum and dad simply said, That's too much disruption to his life. That's not gonna happen. I didn't know any of that had gone on. And then, maybe three, four months down the line, the deal had changed, and it was going be to shoot two films, and they...

Why Daniel Radcliffe's Parents Turned Down His Potter Role

November 23, 2011 12:16:00 PM UTC Daniel Radcliffe 's parents initially turned down his role in the Harry Potter franchise as movie bosses planned to shoot all the films in Los Angeles. The British actor was just a child when he first tried out for the role of the boy wizard, and he has revealed his parents didn't want him to take the job if it meant moving to America. They eventually relented and let Radcliffe audition for director Chris Columbus, who spotted the star in BBC series David Copperfield, when filming was confined to studios in England. Daniel Radcliffe is Singing In The Rain

The Harry Potter actor was practising a routine from How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying but he could have been starring in Singing in The Rain. Unlike Gene Kelly, drenched Dan carried on without the aid of an umbrella as the show's cast rehearsed for the 85th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in New York. And while the chorus dancers covered up in fetching pink macs, he stood out from the crowd with a slightly more stylish black coat. The 22-year-old Brit has been starring in the Broadway show since February, winning rave reviews and a number of critics' awards for the role of J Pierrepont Finch. Earlier this month, he celebrated his 250th show at the Al Hirschfeld theatre and his performance in tomorrow's parade will be something of a swansong as he is leaving the production in January. 'The Woman in Black': Sneak peek at Daniel Radcliffe movie [Video]

Image
"The Woman in Black" is London's second longest-running play, after "The Mousetrap," and judging from the trailers for the upcoming big screen adaptation starring Daniel Radcliffe, it's easy to see why. The story, which originally came from the 1983 novel by Susan Hill, follows a solicitor as he is called to a creepy old manor in the English countryside to settle the affairs of the recently deceased widow who lived there. But soon after his arrival at Eel Marsh House, he begins to experience eerie noises and visions and learns about the stories of the Woman in Black. The theatrical adaptation by Stephen Mallatratt has been running continuously in London's West End since 1989 and is notable for having only two performers. The big screen version, directed by James Watkins and also starring Ciarn Hinds and Janet McTeer, looks to expand quite a bit on the stage play's sparse trappings. It's expected in theaters in February. And it looks much, much sc...

Image
By Paul Thompson Last updated at 4:52 PM on 22nd November 2011 Daniel Radcliffe has revealed how his parents rejected the Harry Potter role because it would have meant him living for long periods in Hollywood. The 22-year-old star said his parents Alan and Marcia initially turned down the offer to audition for the role of the boy wizard from JK Rowling's book. They were told if Radcliffe won the part he would have to make six films and they would all be shot in Los Angeles. Daniel Radcliffe Reflects on the 'Harry Potter' Films, Celebrity, and His Future (Audio)

Image
Getty On Monday afternoon, I had the opportunity to spend some time with the actor Daniel Radcliffe , who is best known for his performance as the title character in all eight films of the Harry Potter films. Radcliffe and I chatted at New York's fabled 21 Club prior to a luncheon that Warner Brothers held in celebration of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 , the final installment in the decade-spanning franchise that has collectively grossed over $7.7 billion at box offices around the world and single-handedly revived the faltering British film industry. The studio is giving the film a full-on Oscar push, with the hope that Academy members might award it a best picture nomination on its own merits and/or as a tribute to all of the films, which have heretofore only registered with them in the technical categories. As you can read and hear below, the 22-year-old -- who is currently starring in the Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying --...

Daniel Radcliffes best interview ever while sorting interviewers laundry, scrubbing her toilet

If youve yet to see Susan Blackwells interview with Daniel Radcliffe for her Broadway.com video series Side by Side by Susan Blackwell , youll want to spend the next 16 minutes watching it here . Because Radcliffe is a bit of a slob Im not clean or even vaguely pleasant to be around in a domestic situation, he says after telling a story about how he once spilled Diet Coke, took off a sock to clean it up, then put the sock back on friend Blackwell gives him a tutorial on how to clean her apartment. They start by washing windows in honor of his role in Broadways How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying . Having just seen the show last week, I can confirm that Radcliffe is telling the truth when he claims to be still having a great time this deep into the run and that co-star John Larroquette still finds things to do to try to make him break character and laugh. The interview, however, hits its stride when he sits down to learn how to sort laundry (Dan Radcliffe is touching my u...
