The Book of Daniel Radcliffe

Image
The versatile young actor tells The Advocate about his return to the supernatural genre, what drew him to play Allen Ginsberg, and why hes tirelessly committed to the Trevor Project. The intense gaze of Daniel Radcliffes wide blue eyes is as haunting as the moody English landscape that provides the setting for the actors most recent film, The Woman in Black. The 22-year-old actor chuckles when this is mentioned. Ive been told several times I have a thousand-yard stare, he offers. When Im not in a bright and cheerful mood I tend to look like Ive just run across no-mans-land. Based on the famed 1982 novel and stunningly directed by James Watkins, the gothic ghost story (now available on DVD and Blu-ray) marks both Radcliffes first film since leaving Hogwarts and an unexpected return to the supernatural genre of the Harry Potter films, which made him a marquee name. Having already proven his versatility in hit stage revivals of the psychological drama Equus and the classic musical How t...

When asked if he was relieved about the film's success, Daniel said: "Absolutely. Yeah, I've never known, really, what it's like to have a film come out where you feel a lot of pressure around the release. And obviously in 'Potter' it was always a question of how big the film was gonna be. So to have a film where you really don't know how it's going to do opening weekend and where you're being released with a load of other films and you haven't got that massively recognisable brand that obviously 'Potter'. had. Warner Bros. announced that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint would star in the last two Harry Potter movies -- Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows . Relax Potter! I will be returning as your sidekick! In a press release, president of production for Warner Bros, Jeff Robinov, said, "It would be inconceivable to imagine anyone else in the roles with which they have become so identified, so we are thrilled and proud that Daniel, Rupert and Emma have chosen to complete the arc of their characters in the final two films." Earlier this month, rumours were circulating that Emma, who plays the uptight Hermione Granger, wasn't keen to sign for the last two movies. Was that...

Radcliffe happy Women in Black success

Daniel Radcliffe felt very relieved when 'Woman in Black' did so well at the box office. Daniel Radcliffe As The Flash: Can You See It?

What does one do after defeating the world's most powerful and deadly dark wizard? Island-bound retirement with cocktails and beach views aplenty is certainly a justifiable option. For Daniel Radcliffe , however, the British actor has opted for more work, work, work. The " Harry Potter " star has already followed up his eight-film performance as the boy wizard with a stint on Broadway and a leading man turn in the horror flick " The Woman in Black ." What's next on his to-do list? Well, this news is filed in the "comic book movie" bin for a reason: according to the actor himself, he'd like to learn how to run really, really fast. Collider recently spoke with Radcliffe and asked him if he'd ever be interested in signing on for a superhero movie. According to the man himself, not only is he up for it, he's got his eye on a certain Scarlet Speedster. "Yeah, absolutely," he said about his interest in comics films. "I dunno ...

Daniel Radcliffe for del Toro's 'Pinocchio'?

May 22, 2012 14:39 The director announced the new project this week at Cannes Buy DVD and Blu-ray from Amazon UK Daniel Radcliffe has been linked to a new version of Pinocchio from Guillermo del Toro . The former Harry Potter star is apparently interested in getting involved with the new adaptation, which will use puppets and stop-motion animation. The new version of the story about the wooden puppet whose nose grows when he tells a lie was announced this week at Cannes. And the director said that Radcliffe has approached him to "get involved in the project," according to the Hollywood Reporter . Del Toro went on to explain that he had not originally intended to direct the film himself, but events forced his hand. He said: "When we originally talked about this project I was going to direct, but then I said I would [just] executive produce it. But everything with the production discussions became more and more specific and I began to realise I was getting more and more...

Daniel Radcliffe Embraces Fatherhood In Post-'Potter' World

Daniel Radcliffe could've done pretty much whatever he wanted after the eight-film "Harry Potter" franchise drew to a close. The young and fabulously wealthy Brit might have jumped headfirst into another studio-driven blockbuster or retreated to a quiet life of attending "Potter" conventions and swimming in a bank vault filled with gold coins. He could have run for prime minister, and won. But Radcliffe did none of these things. Instead he signed on for a low-budget horror flick called "The Woman in Black," and turned it into a $126-million-grossing, sequel-spawning hit. Big ups to the former boy wizard for spotting hit material where many observers might have seen a curious career choice. For Radcliffe, though, it was all about trying something new -- including fatherhood. "One of the things that was very attractive was, in terms of something I'd never done before, I'm playing a father in this," he explains in an exclusive feature...

The Woman in Black: Daniel Radcliffe on his post-Potter gothic horror hit EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Image
Daniel Radcliffe has grown up before our very eyes. When we first met him as Harry Potter, he was only 11 years old . More than a decade later, he bravely launched the post-Potter phase of his movie career in Februarys The Woman in Black , a stylish gothic horror film in which he plays a widowed lawyer and a young father who encounters a terrifying supernatural secret in a small English town. The hit movie proved that Radcliffe whod already demonstrated his non-Potter bona fides on Broadway wont be boxed in by playing the worlds most famous wizard. In the first of two exclusive behind-the-scenes clips from the movie, which arrives on home video tomorrow, Radcliffe discusses how and why he chose The Woman in Black as his first post-Potter role. The most impressive surprise? He apparently celebrated his final day on the set of Potter, concluding a decade of moviemaking history that represented practically half of his own life , by diving in to the script for his next film. I read t...

Daniel Radcliffe Wants To Be A Part Of Guillermo Del Toros Extremely Weird Pinocchio Remake

Image
May 18th, 2012 | 5:45 pm by Halle Kiefer When the man behind Pans Labyrinth and The Orphanage decides to make a 3-D stop-motion Pinocchio remake, you just know its going to be a lot more odd and unsettling than the classic Disney kids movie. So why not add a dash of Daniel Radcliffe and make it downright bizarre? Director Guillermo Del Toro bragged to an audience at the Cannes Film Festival this week that the Harry Potter star expressed an interest in getting involved in the film, presumably as the voice of the wooden boy himself. Did we mention singer Tom Waits is probably going to be Geppetto? Sure, why wouldnt he be? Makes those creepy, donkey-riddled Pleasure Island scenes in the Disney Pinocchio seem downright normal! Just kidding, of course! That island will haunt us forever. Why were those boys all smoking cigars? That aint right! Del Toro is also hoping to snag Christopher Walken for the films malevolent fox villain. The director vowed that movie would be way more fa...

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe wants to play a villain for next role

He shed his clothes on stage in Equus and appeared in the chilling film The Woman in Black , but Daniel Radcliffe seeks one more challenge to escape Harry Potter . I really want to play a baddie next, he tells Mandrake . Ive been talking to Tom Felton [who is Draco Malfoy in the films about the boy wizard]. He enjoyed playing the villain the most, so Id like to get a chance to do that. I come across as quite good in my parts so far and I want to change that. The Tenors impressed the Queen at the Diamond Jubilee Pageant at Windsor Castle, where the Canadian classical singers performed songs from their self-titled new album. The Duke of Edinburgh, however, seemed less enthusiastic about the quartet, who are in their twenties. One of them, Victor Micallef, tells Mandrake: He said, 'I hope your voices dont break in the show.

Harry lingers like bad spell

The first time I saw Daniel Radcliffe, he was a wide-eyed 11-year-old at a press conference for the first Harry Potter film. Eight excursions into J.K. Rowling's world of wizards and muggles later, he has emerged from the franchise a young man, ready to move on to other projects. But are cinemagoers prepared for a post-Potter Radcliffe, or will he be forever stuck in the hallways of Hogwarts in people's minds? On stage, in London and on Broadway, he convinced critics that he has more to offer (I'm not referring to his full-frontal nude scene) with his powerful performance as a teenager who blinds horses, in a production of Peter Shaffer's controversial psychosexual drama, Equus. If the American notices for his recent all-singing, all-dancing turn in the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying were more warmly encouraging than rave, most reviewers at least agreed that his desire to stretch himself was admirable. The question is: can he now sell himself t...

Photo: Nick Wall Daniel Radcliffe finds new life after the Harry Potter series. Speak to Daniel Radcliffe and he will call you ''sir''. It is his near-trademark form of address to male members of the media, a formal title that sounds completely natural, and somehow quite distinct from his Harry Potter student persona. It is a considered means by which the 22-year-old can use his youth to advantage, subtly flattering interviewers, and it works. Radcliffe is on the phone from New York to discuss his new film The Woman in Black , having just finished additional filming on his next project, Kill Your Darlings , in which he plays beat poet Allen Ginsberg. Radcliffe: I dont watch Potter

Daniel Radcliffe has said he has better things to do than watch his old Harry Potter films. The actor found worldwide fame playing the boy wizard in the eight blockbuster movies, but revealed hes only watched them through at premieres. He told The Sun: I dont look back at them. If youre a fan, watch them all you like, but I was there. Daniel, who has gone on to land grown-up roles in The Woman In Black and Kill Your Darlings, said he cringes when he sees himself on screen. He explained: I just dont like watching myself. I dont think many actors do, but I certainly dont, because its very embarrassing.

Daniel Radcliffe: British Miniseries with Jon Hamm?

Daniel Radcliffe boards a boat to film more scenes for his new film, Kill Your Darlings, in New Your City on Thursday evening (May 10). The 22-year-old actors name is floating around a new British miniseries, The Sun (via Vulture ) reports. The paper says the project for the Sky Arts channel is about Russian doctors in the aftermath of World War I. Daniel and Mad Men s Jon Hamm would play the same character, but in different times of life. WHAT DO YOU THINK about this possible project for Dan? Like Just Jared Jr. on FB

Potter star turns to horror role

Daniel Radcliffe doesn't believe in ghosts or the supernatural, though he admits maybe he should. The 22-year-old British actor who achieved global stardom as wizard Harry Potter is back on the big screen, this time without his wand, for ghostly horror flick The Woman In Black. Baby-faced Radcliffe fidgets nervously as he seeks approval for his latest venture. "Oh, you liked it? Oh good!" says the articulate Radcliffe, promoting the film in London ahead of its UK premiere. Set in Victorian-era Britain, The Woman In Black has Radcliffe playing a young solicitor sent to the countryside to finalise a deceased estate. Less-than-welcoming locals and a haunted house await Radcliffe's character, Arthur Caps, in the bleak regional township. "I'm thinking of changing my answer and just starting to lie soon, but I've never had a belief in ghosts or the afterlife or anything like that," Radcliffe tells AAP. He then laughs uncomfortably when asked if his perform...
