Daniel and Jon, Sitting in a Tub
Sky Arts has released images from its upcoming TV miniseries starring Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe, A Young Doctor's Notebook. The miniseries is based on the semi-autobiographical short stories of Mikhail Bulgakov that chronicled his work as a doctor during the Russian Revolution. What all this has to do with Harry Potter and Don Draper sitting in a bathtub together, we don't know, but we can't wait to find out. A Young Doctor's Notebook does not yet have a premiere date.
X Factors Cuts it Down to 12
The first cut is the deepest, and four acts definitely learned that lesson during last night's X Factor. Tattooed soul singer David Correy, 13-year-old Diamond White, country crooner Willie Jones, and country trio Sister C were all sent packing by the judges during the show's first elimination episode. Do you think the right acts were sent home? Are you sad to see any of these performers go? Which act do you think stands the best chance of! winning the whole shebang? Fox Halts Production on Becki Newton Comedy
It might be game over for Fox's upcoming midseason sitcom, The Goodwin Games. The network has halted production and trimmed the episode order from the original 13 to just seven. The Goodwin Games stars Becki Newton, Scott Foley, and T.J. Miller as a trio of siblings who must compete in order to inherit their late father's fortune. Fox insists that the decision was based on the fact that Raising Hope, New Girl, and The Mindy Project are all getting expanded 24-episode seasons, i.e. there's just nowhere to put 13 episodes of The Goodwin Games.
Khloe Kardashian: Hosting Work in Progress
Speaking of The X Factor, Khloe Kardashian made quite a stir when she revealed a bit more than she intended during her debut as the new co-host of the singing competition. But the star says she's loving her new gig and learning a lot. "My sisters have already texted me tips, which I love," Kardashian, 28, told ! People after Thursday's show. "I love constructive criticism. I've never done this before, so I just think I can only get better hopefully."
"I'm going to re-watch what I did and learn from it and critique what I did," she added. "Now that I understand everything, I think next week can only get better."
USA Axes Political Animals, Fairly Legal
The USA network has decided not to move forward with a second season of Political Animals. The Sigourney Weaver-led drama was billed as a "limited series event" and will remain as such, despite some talk of continuing the series. We are proud of Political Animals, our miniseries that attracted critical acclaim and impacted the cultural conversation this summer, USA said in a statement.
In a statement released via his Twitter on Friday, creator Greg Berlanti said, "Thanks everyone for the nice tweets regarding Political Animals. It remains one of the best and most rewarding experiences of my life... The cast, the crew, writers, studio and USA were all a dream to work with. We all got to make what we set out to. Couldn't be more proud!"
USA also announced on Thursday that it has decided not to renew Fairly Legal for a third season. Legal star Sarah Shahi has already booked a multi-episode guest star arc on NBC's Chicago Fire playing a love interest for Taylor Kinney's firefighter character. The USA network also canceled
Mythbusters Takes on Breaking Bad
The Mythbusters boys are putting on their hazmat suits for a special Breaking Bad episode. EW reports that the Discovery reality series is set to film an episode that will attempt to debug some of the science seen on Breaking Bad (including fun stuff like breaking down a human body with hydrochloric acid). Series creator Vince Gilligan and star Aaron Paul will appear in the episode, which is being shot this week in San Francisco. Don't worry, though, Mythbusters won't be attempting to cook up a batch of meth in the name of television experimentation.
Were going to push the limit of humor about this as far as we can, and its a difficult line because Mythbusters is a family show, says host Adam Savage. A lot of people watch it with their kids, and yet were doing with a collaboration with pretty much the least family-oriented show on television right now, about a science teacher turned drug manufacturer who kills people. At the same time, theyre very committed to getting the scene right on that show. The fact that those guys love science and they want us to test their stuff and they dont care whether we bust it or not, they want to actually know the answer thats our favorite kind of collaboration.
Seinfeld is Still a Cash Cow
What's the deal with Seinfeld reruns? During a recent Time Warner investors conference, it was revealed that the NBC comedy ! has made ! an incredible $2.7 billion (yes, billion) since it went off the air 12 years ago, according to the New York Post. That makes Seinfeld the most profitable 30-minute comedy in TV history, with each of its 180 episodes netting about $14 million so far. Jerry Seinfeld has an undisclosed ownership stake in the show, which Forbes estimates probably earns him between $65-80 million per year. Not too shabby for a show about nothing.
