Daniel Radcliffe Demanded 'Kill Your Darlings' Auditions

Daniel Radcliffe insisted on auditioning for film 'Kill Your Darlings' as he wanted to ensure the director wanted him for his talent rather than his profile.

Director John Krokidas reportedly wanted to fast track Daniel through try outs for the movie as he was already known around the world thanks to his former role as Harry Potter.

And the star, who plays late gay poet Allen Ginsberg in the film, told Out: I think he was nervous about whether I would want to audition or not, and so at my first meeting with him I said, 'I want to read, I want to audition.'

Because at this point in my career, I am aware that my name brings a certain kind of cachet. I want to know that a director wants me for me, rather than for the cachet.

But Daniel admits he does understand why people he got special treatment when actors were being cast for the project.

He said: I don't look like him although, neither does James Franko (who was cast as Allen in 2010 movie 'Howl') and I'm English and middle class, and not from New Jersey, but that's what I think is so exciting about it, because people have no idea.

I've always known I have the potential to be a good actor, and I think more than a good actor, but I've also at times lacked the tools and didn't have any training.
