Daniel Radcliffe switches allegiance from Liberal Democrats to Labour

London, Feb 6 : Daniel Radcliffe has said that supporting his former favourites Liberal Democrats has become "unviable" since Nick Clegg became Deputy Prime Minister.

The actor was a vocal supporter of the party in the 2010 General Election.

"Nick Clegg has become a whipping boy," the Telegraph quoted him as telling Attitude magazine.

"He has been totally used by the Tories. Anything they don't want badly reflected on them, they reflect on to him.

"It's very unfortunate when you think how impressive he was in those pre-election debates. But he has made so many concessions," he said.

Radcliffe, who has an estimated 30 million pound fortune, had met Clegg after announcing his support for the party and had praised him at the time.

"I rather like Nick Clegg. I don't like the New Labour thing. I've only seen the bad years of it," he said.

"I think, if you make a lot more money than most people - like I do - you should pay more tax and subsidise people who work just as hard as you, but don't earn as much," he added.

The 'Harry Potter' star now supports Ed Miliband and says that the Labour leader is 'genuinely left-wing'.

"I really like him. He speaks for what I believe in. I think he's genuinely left-wing, and will act as such if he gets in," he said.

Radcliffe is the latest celebrity to desert the Liberal Democrats. Fashion designer Bella Freud, actor Colin Firth and author Kate Mosse have also abandoned the party since it entered government. (ANI)
