Daniel Radcliffe talks post-'Potter' moves

(CNN) -Given how much money the "Harry Potter" franchise made, we'd get it if Daniel Radcliffe decided he didn't really have to "try" anymore.
But the 22-year-old actor, despite his success playing the titular boy wizard in the series, says he's more than willing to put in just as much work to land roles as an unknown would.
"A lot of people need convincing, because they've only seen me do one thing," Radcliffe explained of how he's overcoming any lingering "Potter" bias. "The first thing I say when I go into any meeting with a director is, 'I want to read for this.' Because, apparently, [of] the number of actors that don't read and won't audition for things."
It's a habit that Radcliffe finds "bizarre."
"Even if someone is my age or maybe just a little bit older, they haven't got a body of work to point to and go 'Well, look at my work.' Even I, myself, don't consider myself as having a body of work. I'm only 22. So, I think at this point, I enjoy reading for stuff, and going in. So far, things have been going well."
Indeed they have, as he's starring in the thriller "The Woman in Black," which opens this weekend, and has also lined up a role as a younger Allen Ginsberg in "Kill Your Darlings."
"'Kill Your Darlings' is about a murder that w! as the c atalyst for forming the beat generation," Radcliffe explains, adding that some have expressed surprise.
"I'm playing Allen Ginsberg at the age of 19, and I've been getting lots of people saying to me, 'Are you going to grow a beard?' I'm thinking, they wouldn't have, perhaps, cast me if they were filming him at 40."
Regardless, the ability to be able to sign on for such a part without any other commitments hanging over his schedule is liberating.
"It's lovely to not have to go 'I'm sorry, I'm not available for another two years,'" he says. "It's lovely to [say], 'Yes, I can take that job.' I can do that."
"Kill Your Darlings" is scheduled to arrive in 2013.
