Daniel Radcliffe Turns 23 -- Whats Next for the Harry Potter Star
The boy wizard of Britain hasn't been resting on his laurels since finishing up the "Harry Potter" series. The young actor celebrates his golden birthday today, July 23, and has plenty on his plate to keep him occupied for the next few years.
Since vanquishing Lord Voldemort, Radcliffe has locked horns with a vengeful ghost in the horror-thriller "The Woman in Black," showed off his funny bone by hosting "Saturday Night Live," and displayed his musical chops in the Broadway revival of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."
The Hogwarts graduate seems determined to pursue an eclectic mix of roles and artistic mediums in the future as well. Here's a snippet of what he has coming up next.
Increasing His Indie Cred
Earlier this year, the talented actor lent his skills and fame to British indie band Slow Club in a one-take music video for their new single "The Beginners." He also scheduled his return to the West End by joining a London theater troupe with fellow A-listers Jude Law and Dame Judi Dench. Radcliffe will perform in Martin McDonagh's comic masterpiece "The Cripple of Inishmaan" as part of five play series designed to attract new theatergoers by offering over 100,000 tickets at just 10 pounds ($16) a pop.
Stateside, he'll take on the role of beat legend Allen Ginsberg in the upcoming film "Kill Your Darlings" about the 1944 murder of English teacher David Kammerer by fellow beat Lucien Carr -- an event that brought Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and William S. Burroughs together at Columbia University in New York City.
'Hamm-ing' It Up with the "Mad Men" Actor
Next year, the 23-year-old will join "Mad Men" lead actor Jon Hamm in the bleakly comic British miniseries "A Young Doctor's Notebook." The dark and witty romp is based upon a collection of short stories by Russian author and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov. Both of the actors will play the same World War I medic at various stages in his life. However, the duo will share some on-screen time together when the older Hamm reprimands his younger self in a series of comedic exchanges.
Growing Horns in a Return to the Supernatural
Have no fear 'Potter' fans, Dan Rad will be returning to a supernatural world in the big-screen adaptation of Joe Hill's popular Gothic novel "Horns." The dark fantasy has his character Ignatius 'Ig' Perrish awaken after a night of heavy drinking only to discover he's grown a pair of bony horns atop his head. The horns force the young 'Ig' to confess his sins as he hunts for his girlfriend's killer.
