Sequel to Daniel Radcliffes horror film The Woman in Black in the works
The production team behind The Woman in Black, the hit horror film that starred Daniel Radcliffe, is beginning production on a sequel titled The Woman in Black: Angels of Death.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alliance Films, Cross Creek Pictures, the revamped Hammer and author Susan Hill have picked Jon Crocker to work on a script for a sequel. Crocker was a story editor on the first film and also penned Desert Dancer. The screenplay was based on Hills original story and has actually been in the works for years, but Crocker has just finished the script.
Vertigo Entertainments Roy Lee will act as executive producer.
The new films plot sounds like it would require an entirely new cast, since it takes place 40 years later. Deadline notes that Radcliffe starred in the original as a lawyer that works on the papers of a recently-deceased client and encounters the ghost of the Woman in Black at the clients home in a remote part of England. Angels of Death will introduce a new couple who visit the same house.
The Woman in Black was one of the most successful horror films in the UK in decades when it was released earlier this year. Variety reports that the film made $33.3 million in the UK, making it the top-grossing horror film of the last 20 years. The film made $120 million worldwide. It was directed by James Watkins, but it has not been announced if he will return for Angels of Death.
